Dear Art Workshop students and parents,
It has been a rough four months as our world seemed to change without much warning. I can not express how much I missed my students. Although I was still teaching at SBA remotely, the personal touch and connection is what makes teaching such a great job. My winter students were just shy of their art show, with one class remaining, before the state closed all schools on March 12th.
With the change in status in Montgomery County, Immaculate Conception parish was good enough to allow the program to finish with makeup classes during the week of 7/1 and our show the following week. The student did some amazing work around the theme “It’s Personal.” The show is being held on Tuesday 7/7 with sign-ups for specific time slots, with everyone’s safety in mind and so social distancing could be honored.
The onset of COVID and the uncertainty surrounding the virus has changed everything. While our pastor has encouraged me to continue with my afternoon Art Workshop, I have concerns regarding new responsibilities which the CDC has put into action for schools and student activities. No one is sure what the fall will bring.
After a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to stop offering the Art Workshop program. The evolution of the program has been a wonderful part of my life, 23 years to be exact. It has been a joy for me to teach your children and to witness their creativity. I am so grateful for the support of my parish and family. The students brought out the best in each other and in me. Most of all, I am grateful for your support and the encouragement you give your children regarding the arts.
Please continue to support their efforts to be creative….it will be a part of their lives forever!
